Make a golden hoop in Photoshop

Hoop Corinne Geertsen

My next picture has a golden hoop in it. Here’s how to make one.

1. In a new Photoshop document (1200 px square) add a new layer. Name it “Hoop”.
2. Select Ellipse Tool (U). Check the Paths box in the Options Bar.
3. Hold down the Shift Key and drag a circle the size you want your hoop to be.

4. In the Paths Palette, name this path “Hoop Path”.
5. Choose a 25 px hard edged brush. Choose an orange yellow as a foreground color.
6. Click Stroke Button at bottom of Paths Palette.

7. Command click Hoop layer to select hoop. Feather selection about 8 pixels.
8. Nudge selection UP so bottom of selection is at the center of the hoop’s tube.
(To move a selection, make sure Lasso or Marquee tool is selected.)
9. Invert selection. Add a Levels layer. Darken to form the hoop’s shadow.

10. Command click Hoop layer to select hoop. Feather selection about 8 pixels.
11. Nudge selection DOWN so bottom of selection is at the center of the hoop’s tube.
12. Invert selection. Add a Levels layer. Lighten to form the hoop’s highlights.

13. Add a Hue/Sat. Adjustment layer. Adjust Hue Slider to change color of hoop.
